George Carlin on the American Dream

“There’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason that it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got. Because the owners of this country don’t want that. I’m talking about the REAL owners, now. The REAL owners, the BIG WEALTHY business interests that control things and make all the important decisions — forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. YOU DON’T. You have no choice. You have OWNERS. They OWN YOU. They own EVERYTHING. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations; they’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the State houses, the City Halls; they’ve got the judges in their back pockets, and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear. They gotcha by the BALLS. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying — lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want — they want MORE for themselves and less for everybody else. But I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They DON’T want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that, that doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they’re getting FUCKED by system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want OBEDIENT WORKERS. OBEDIENT WORKERS. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passably accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And now they’re comin’ for your SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY. They want your fuckin’ retirement money. They want it BACK. So they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it ALL from you sooner or later — ‘cuz they OWN this fuckin’ place. It’s a big CLUB. And YOU AIN’T IN IT. You and I are NOT IN the big club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long, beating you over the in their media telling you what to believe — what to think — and what to buy. The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Good honest hard-workin people — white collar, blue collar — doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-workin people CONTINUE — these are people of modest means — continue to elect these RICH COCKSUCKERS who don’t GIVE a fuck about them. They don’t give a fuck about you, they don’t GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU — AT ALL. AT ALL. AT ALL. You know? And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care … that’s what the owners count on, the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes every day. Because the owners of this country know the truth — it’s called the American Dream … ‘cuz you have to be asleep to believe it.”

Bill Maher’s Conspiracy Theory

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 19, 2012

Bill Maher said he’s not a conspiracy theorist, but… He’s noticed that the Republicans … well, let’s just take a quote from his recent show on Yahoo:

“…it looks like all these Republicans, they just want to keep the economy in the shitter until November, and then blame it on Blackie McBlackman. That’s not patriotic. You know, all their budget battles, always strangling the economy, you know: I understand why they’re doing that. I don’t understand why Obama ever goes half in on their bad ideas… When you’re having budget battles, and the Republicans want to cut from the poor, and the children, and the elderly, and the planet as they DO, it’s not the Democrats’ job (to say) ‘great, how much should we fuck them?’ That’s when the Democrats threaten their shit, threaten the oil companies, threaten the banks, threaten the Pentagon. Somebody in office, please!”

Code of Ethics

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 18, 2012

My Pledge for Honest Candidates doesn’t do anything different than what has already been done before. The only thing the Pledge does is show that the voters mean business when they vote that they will prosecute unethical behavior, the kind that is rampant in politics right now.

Did you know that the United States adopted a Code of Ethics for government service on July 11, 1958? Here is the text:

Resolved by the House of Representatives {the Senate concurring}, That it is the sense of the Congress that the following Code of Ethics should be adhered to by all Government employees, including officeholders.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR GOVERNMENT SERVICE

Any person in Government service should:

1. Put loyalty to the highest moral principals and to country above loyalty to Government persons, party, or department.

2. Uphold the Constitution, laws, and legal regulations of the United States and of all governments therein and never be a party to their evasion.

3. Give a full day’s labor for a full day’s pay; giving to the performance of his duties his earnest effort and best thought.

4. Seek to find and employ more efficient and economical ways of getting tasks accomplished.

5. Never discriminate unfairly by the dispensing of special favors or privileges to anyone, whether for remuneration or not; and never accept for himself or his family, favors or benefits under circumstances which might be construed by reasonable persons as influencing the performance of his governmental duties.

6. Make no private promises of any kind binding upon the duties of office, since a Government employee has no private word which can be binding on public duty.

7. Engage in no business with the Government, either directly or indirectly which is inconsistent with the conscientious performance of his governmental duties.

8. Never use any information coming to him confidentially in the performance of governmental duties as a means for making private profit.

9. Expose corruption wherever discovered.

10. Uphold these principles, ever conscious that public office is a public trust.

Re-Districting

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 17, 2012

The biggest problem I have had with the Pledge was not the fact that it has stringent guidelines for campaign financing, but that its original draft did away with gerrymandering by removing redistricting altogether, going back to the days when the district lines were originally drawn, in most cases 1912. (For some reason, I was correct in assuming that the formation of the Fed followed on the heels of drawing of original district lines. It may just be a coincidence.)

Gerrymandering and re-districting are two very different things. Redistricting is  necessary when the population changes so much that one district may contain tens of thousands more constituents, giving each voter less power (as a percentage of the whole) than a similar voter in a neighboring district whose population is small.

Gerrymandering is the purposeful distortion of district lines to gain political (party) advantage. Both parties do it, and they have spent a great deal of money to get it done. The more ragged the lines of your district, the more obvious that it (or the district next to it) has been gerrymandered. Our officials should be ashamed and embarrassed when their district’s boundaries are ragged, because it means they’ve been fooling around with voters.

California has been gerrymandered to death. It’s the reason that we Californians passed The Voters FIRST Act, approved in November 2008 as Proposition 11. Prop 20 further clarifies the redistricting process and specifically Prop 11.

I borrowed the basic idea from this Act to come up with a more reasonable way to address redistricting in all states which have gerrymandering problems. This can serve as the standard for the bill that goes to congress, describing the procedures for redistricting and based on the 10-year census.

Article 5

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 16, 2012

Article V (five) of the Constitution is important because it explains how Amendments can be added to the Constitution. So far, we have 27 Amendments, and all of them have been passed the first of two ways:

  1. Congress can amend the Constitution by 2/3 of the House and Senate approving the measure, then ¾ of the States’ legislature passing same.
  2. States can bypass the congress by Constitutional Convention and 2/3 approval by the States’ legislature.

This is important to know because the Citizens United decision (giving corporations the ability to make unlimited donations to secretive organizations for the purpose of influencing elections and the candidates they support) has caused such a push-back from the populace, that a campaign called Amend 2012 is now circulating amongst the states. Here is another version of the same idea: http://cs2pr.us/28th_Amendment.html that actually hits harder on the issue of money in politics than the example legislation noted at the Amend 2012 website.

The Amendment idea is not without merit, but it is also not hitting hard enough or directly enough on the problem. Even if corporations stopped funding campaigns, they are still spending money through lobbyists to: write legislation that favors their interests (and often theirs alone), corrupt our officials to pass that legislation, and then keep them under their control by funding their next campaign, often through byzantine machinations.

All of this should be illegal and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Why aren’t we doing that? Because we think we are powerless to do so. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is because we are still the United States of America, a democratically elected republic, that we can exercise our voting power to fix this problem. But we have to act, and the sooner the better.

If you want to change congress this November, consider voting for those candidates who have taken the Pledge for Honest Candidates, because strong wording is needed to cause real change. Going back to the days before Citizens United is not enough, because the corruption goes back much farther than that. In fact, if we don’t pass legislation like the Pledge outlines, we may lose our republic entirely and we will become a pure democracy, run by the people. Congress will be obsolete in such a society. The pendulum always swings.

For more information about Article V, visit this link: http://www.lexisnexis.com/constitution/amendments_howitsdone.asp

Here is the text of that Article:

Article V is: “The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.”

Does your vote count anymore?

If you are unemployed, you don’t have to worry about this problem, but for the employed, one of the oldest tricks in the book for suppression of voting is the employer who tells his/her worker that if they leave during November 6th workday to get to the polls, they will be fired.

The best way to prevent losing your vote if you need to be worried about this problem is to apply for an absentee ballot long before voting day. If you have trouble registering to vote, contact us at: info@writeindependent.org and tell us why you haven’t been able to register.

Even so, we do have to worry that our ballots are being counted correctly. Please revisit this blog as we get closer to election time and type “Write in Stand in” into the search function, and we will tell you the best way to make sure your vote is counted.

Equality? Freedom?

“No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get 50% of their pay on retirement.  While Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the capital, protected by these same men and women, and receive full-pay retirement after serving one term. It just does not make any sense.

“Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: ‘Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States .’

Why Is Obama Scared?

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 13, 2012

The following article was written by Mike Adams, editor in chief at NaturalNews.com and published March 20, 2012:

On March 16, 2012, President Obama issued an executive order entitled, “NATIONAL DEFENSE RESOURCES PREPAREDNESS.” (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/16/executive-order-national-defense-resources-preparedness)

This executive order states that the President alone has the authority to take over all resources in the nation (labor, food, industry, etc.) as long as it is done “to promote the national defense” — a phrase so vague that it could mean practically anything.

The power to seize control and take over these resources is delegated to the following government authorities:

(1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

(4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;

(5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and

(6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

This takeover is designed, in part, to “stockpile supplies” for the U.S. military. Authority for this total takeover of all national resources is granted with nothing more than the writing of a single statement that claims these actions are necessary to “promote the national defense.” As stated in the order:

the authority delegated by section 201 of this order may be used only to support programs that have been determined in writing as necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense:

(a) by the Secretary of Defense with respect to military production and construction, military assistance to foreign nations, military use of civil transportation, stockpiles managed by the Department of Defense, space, and directly related activities;

What all this means is that the U.S. government now claims the power to simply march onto your farm with guns drawn and demand all your crops, seeds, livestock and farm equipment.

Think I’m exaggerating? Read it yourself!

And for those living in denial who refuse to accept the reality of what’s happening in America, remember the following:

• When NaturalNews reported on the existence of the NDAA, we were told our reporting was misleading because Obama opposed it and wouldn’t sign it.

• When Obama betrayed America and signed the bill, we were told our reporting was misleading because “it didn’t apply to Americans.”

• When Obama admitted it did apply to Americans, he announced that he would choose “not to use it on Americans” but only by the grace of his restraint. Nobody who previously accused us of misleading the public had the integrity to offer us an apology and say, “Gee, you were right, it DOES apply to Americans!”

• Now Obama has seized control over all food, farms, livestock, water and transportation across America. How many brain-dead Americans will continue to live in denial and try to convince themselves this is not happening? Sticking your head in the sand does not make this go away…

Obama’s executive order is nothing new. It’s essentially identical to EO 12919 issued by Clinton in 1994. In fact, the only real change Obama made to Clinton’s EO 12919, is removing several responsibilities from FEMA, and placing them under the DHS (which didn’t exist in 94). And Clinton’s EO 12919 was just an amendment to EO 10789, issued in 1958 by President Eisenhower, was later amended by EO 13286, issued in 2003 by George W. Bush.

Bottom line: It’s standard EO stuff for the last (almost) 60 years, and Obama’s executive order brings nothing new to the table. Furthermore, the text of Obama’s EO, NEVER mentions any seizure of property or martial law… not even once.

I’m not even a fan of Obama, but here you are Mike getting all kooky, making me have to defend the man from silly accusations. When the options are research vs tin-foil hat, always go for the research first.

Football Analogy

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 12, 2012

Capitalism is good. Capitalism is great. But capitalism without democracy is doomed to failure, because the ultimate of capitalism is monopoly.

Once you hit the jackpot and have all the money and all the power, then all the other players drop out and it’s not fun anymore.

Take football, as an example. What if you gave one team all the advantages: the best players, best coaches, trainers, consultants, the best food and medical care, the most up to date equipment, finest playing fields and stadiums, and all the perks. What’s more, every time a referee calls a foul, the attorneys for this team get together and write up a new rule to make it even harder for the ref to make things fair.

And then you gave all the other teams, well… let’s just say, they’re starving, and their coach barely ekes out a living, has to fill out copious forms to even be in the game, and their practice field is full of potholes and mud.

After about 3 or 4 games where the elite squad pummels the weak squad, how many more games are we spectators going to want to watch?

So finally, the referees say that they want in on the game. And they say to the attorneys, okay, we’ll throw the game, but we want in.

And now you know what our government is. Our government is run by the referees who saw that the game was rigged, and they just gave up and gave in.

It’s up to us spectators to stop the insanity. Instead of just being spectators, we have to kick out these referees and hire new ones. Only this isn’t just a football game, and while our football players might still have some energy left, let’s get them back up and running, why don’t we?

Obama Should Be Ashamed

Originally posted at Writeindependent.org on April 11, 2012

Obama should be ashamed of himself. He’s completely out of touch with the people of this great nation. He thinks that spending one billion dollars on his campaign is perfectly normal. Instead, it is the ultimate example of the profligate nature of campaign spending and what insane levels it has reached.

Estimates of this year’s campaign spending are in the ballpark of eight billion dollars. Why can’t politicians and their main backers see that in a time when many of our people are out of work, lost their homes, and starving, that this kind of spending proves there are no morals left to a whole segment of our population. That part of the population who would back these immoral candidates are the problem, as much as the candidates themselves.

Yet we insist on voting for them.

WHY? Why are we our own worst enemy?

How about this for an analogy: Obama is the “Miss America” contestant who buys herself an expensive wardrobe while her children are starving to death. Some values, huh?

Here are the statistics for hunger and poverty in America (remember, these figures are higher now):

  • In 2009, 43.6 million people (14.3 percent) were in poverty.
  • In 2009, 15.5 million (20.7 percent) children under the age of 18 were in poverty.
  • In 2009, 3.4 million (8.9 percent) seniors 65 and older were in poverty.

Food Insecurity and Very Low Food Security[2]

  • In 2010, 48.8 million Americans lived in food insecure households, 32.6 million adults and 16.2 million children.
  • In 2010, 5.4 percent of households (6.4 million households) experienced very low food security.
  • In 2010, households with children reported food insecurity at a significantly higher rate than those without children, 20.2 percent compared to 11.7 percent.

Facts of Child Hunger in America

  • According to the USDA, over 16 million children lived in food insecure (low food security and very low food security) households in 2010.
  • In 2010, 16.4 million or approximately 22 percent of children in the U.S. lived in poverty.
  • Research indicates that hungry children do more poorly in school and have lower academic achievement because they are not well prepared for school and cannot concentrate.

When you put it into perspective, doesn’t it seem a shame that our fellow “countrymen” would rather spend eight billion dollars pelting you with campaign ads than feeding the hungry? And after they’ve spent all their billions, what have we got?
